Petitioner Martin D. Deever was employed as a window washer by Hawkeye Window Cleaning, Inc., in March 1987. On November 11, 1987, he asked to leave early to get a part for his car. Deever's foreman, Howard, gave him permission to leave. However, after Howard checked with the supervisor, Jim, this permission was denied.
