On February 3, 1989, after a three week trial, defendant Israel Ruiz, Jr. ("defendant" or "Senator Ruiz") was convicted of making a false statement to a bank in connection with an application for a loan, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1014, as set forth in Count Two of Indictment 88 Cr. 578 (PKL) (the "indictment").
