Defendant, Michael Wiklund, was charged by the Tangipahoa Parish Grand Jury in a two count indictment with aggravated rape (count one) and aggravated crime against nature (count two), violations of LSA-R.S. 14:42 and 89.1, respectively. At trial, after the jury was selected and sworn and prior to the state's opening statement, count two was severed from the indictment on motion of the state.
