On October 14, 1985, Milton Lucas was admitted to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a growth from his right lung. Terri Rachals, a registered nurse, was assigned to care for him after his surgery in the surgical intensive care unit. Lucas subsequently suffered a heart attack of unknown cause on October 17, 1985.
