In July 1987, the appellant was charged by a St. Clair County grand jury with committing the offenses of rape in the first degree, in violation of § 13A-6-61, Code of Alabama (1975), and sodomy in the first degree, in violation of § 13A-6-63, Code of Alabama (1975). The appellant was convicted in a jury trial of both offenses and was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment on each conviction, with the sentences to run consecutively...
