Michael Anthony Chew was tried and convicted in the Circuit Court for Charles County of murder in the first degree, attempt to commit rape in the first degree, and third degree sexual offense. In a separate sentencing proceeding the jury decided that life imprisonment was the appropriate sentence for the murder, instead of the death sentence sought by the State.
