The defendant, Roosevelt Hobson, Jr., was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 24-1(a)(4).) The offense was enhanced from a misdemeanor to a Class 4 felony because he had a prior conviction for the same offense. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 24-1(b).)
