The defendants, Herbert McGrath and Keith McGrath, were jointly tried in a case initiated before a jury in the circuit court of Cook County. Following the presentation of the State's case, however, the defendants waived their right to a jury trial. Herbert McGrath had been charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated battery and two counts of armed violence....
