On October 27, 1988, the Grand Jury for the Northern District of Alabama indicted Lorenza Benefield, Sr. on one count of unlawfully purchasing over $100 of food stamp coupons issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) in violation of 7 U.S.C. 2024(b).
