CARTER, Judge.

This is a suit for damages arising out of an apartment fire.

FACTS

On March 17, 1985, plaintiff, Ralph Lirette, and his wife, accompanied by several friends, spent the day in New Orleans. Thereafter, the Lirettes, Cary DeRoach, and Liana Castells returned to the Lirettes' small apartment in Houma where they indulged in alcoholic beverages and played card games.

About 10:00 p.m., Sharon Lirette left the group to take a bath...
