OPINION

MOTZ, District Judge.

This case raises far-reaching issues concerning (1) the responsibility of manufacturers of asbestos products (and manufacturers of equipment containing asbestos) to undertake the defense of an unseaworthiness claim brought against a shipowner by a seaman suffering from an asbestos-related disease, and (2) the effects upon a manufacturer of a settlement between the seaman, the shipowner and other manufacturers.
