EDWARDS, Judge.

Clarence Frederick, Jr., was indicted by the St. Mary Parish grand jury for second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. A sanity commission was appointed, and defendant was found competent to proceed. After trial by jury, defendant was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor, without benefit of probation,
