Nevin Carlyle and Denise Kramer were the parents of David Carlyle, a 7-year-old boy who died August 7, 1984, at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Warrensburg (hospital), as a result of complications from appendicitis. While in the hospital, David was attended by Hsein E. Lai, M.D., an emergency room physician placed at the hospital through Spectrum Emergency Care, Inc. (Spectrum), a Missouri corporation.
