Plaintiff Leo Wilson was injured on January 13, 1987 while working as a mechanic for Bronxwood Dyeing Company, Inc. ("Bronxwood"). A dyeing machine he was operating inadvertently started, crushing his finger.

Wilson and his wife Dahlia Wilson, citizens of New York, initiated this products liability action against Famatex, the manufacturer of the dyeing machine, in New York Supreme Court, Bronx County, in September of 1988. The complaint...
