BILLINGS, Judge:

Jerome Wallace Smith appeals his conviction of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a third degree felony, in violation of Utah Code Ann. § 58-37-8(2)(a)(i) (1989). Defendant claims the police officer's stop of his car was a violation of his fourth amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures.
