James Byrd, Jr., was charged by bill of information with armed robbery, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:64. Defendant was tried by a jury which convicted him of the responsive offense of first degree robbery, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:64.1. See LSA-C.Cr.P. art. 814(A)(22).
