Just before midnight on December 1, 1987, a robbery took place at the Big Apple convenience store on State Street in Augusta. George Sprague, the employee on duty, was robbed and killed. Three days later Raymond A. Sumabat was arrested in Orlando, Florida, in connection with these crimes. On December 1, 1988, after a three-day jury trial in Superior Court (Waldo County, Alexander, J.), Sumabat was convicted of murder and armed robbery...
