Steven Charles Lyman was convicted of one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) (1982), and one count of the knowing and unlawful use of a firearm "during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime," 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1) (1982 & Supp. V 1987). He pleaded guilty to the first count but on the second he waived his right to a jury...
