HOGAN, Judge.
A jury found John M. Newman (defendant) guilty of first-degree robbery, § 569.020, RSMo 1978, and armed criminal action, § 571.015, RSMo 1978. Defendant was found to be a persistent offender as defined by § 558.016, RSMo Supp.1983, and his punishment was assessed at 25 years for the crime of robbery and 25 years for the crime of armed criminal action.
