Following a decision in 1985 to reduce its work force, defendant Champion Spark Plug Company selected the plaintiffs, among others, for termination. The plaintiffs filed this action contending that Champion discriminated against them because of their age in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act ("ADEA"), 29 U.S.C. §§ 621-634 (1982), and that Champion's conduct was willful.
