Defendant-appellant, Charlie Bell, was indicted by a grand jury on July 17, 1987 for the second degree murder of his wife, Evelyn Bell, a violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Thereafter, a sanity commission was appointed and at a sanity hearing held November 19, 1987, defendant was found competent to proceed.
