Vernon Earl Keating was killed when an ambulance ran into his car in September 1985. Kathleen Wells Keating, Vernon Earl Patrick Keating, and Thomas William Keating, the wife and sons of the deceased, sued for damages for wrongful death. The defendants were Holston's Ambulance Service, Inc., and its primary and excess insurers, Safeco Insurance Company and Chicago Insurance Company.
