This is an action for legal malpractice. Defendant was plaintiff's court-appointed attorney to represent plaintiff in criminal proceedings brought by the State of Louisiana in April 1985. Plaintiff pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the charges against him and the district court ordered that a Sanity Commission examine him. In the meantime, and while he was incarcerated in the Evangeline Parish jail, plaintiff committed an act of self-mutilation...
