Melvin Blakely sued Louisiana & Arkansas Railway Company under the Federal Employers' Liability Act, 45 U.S.C.A. §§ 51-60 (West 1986), for damages based on injuries he received while working for the Railway. The trial court allowed Blakely to amend his pleadings before trial to add a cause of action under 45 U.S.C.A. § 2 (West Supp.1989), the Safety Appliance Act.
