LAVORATO, Justice.

Dennis Witte, the plaintiff, suffered life-threatening injuries when his automobile was struck from behind by a truck operated by Robert Vogt, the defendant. In his subsequent suit against Vogt, the jury awarded Witte $12,000, about $800 more than his special damages. Witte moved for a new trial, claiming that the verdict was inadequate.
