Applicant, Thomas Kane, was convicted of first degree murder in violation of Iowa Code sections 707.1 and 707.2 (1979). On his direct appeal, we affirmed the conviction. His subsequent application for postconviction relief was denied by the district court. On the present appeal, Kane claims 1) ineffective assistance of appellate counsel in his criminal case, 2) he was denied a fair trial in his criminal case due to a private communication...
