JUSTICE SCOTT delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, the defendant, Louis Holmes, was found guilty of misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 56 1/2, par. 704(c)). The defendant was then sentenced to 12 months' probation and fined $300. He appeals.
