This case involves convictions of Alonza Birchead by a jury in the Circuit Court for Worcester County upon multiple violations of the controlled dangerous substance laws, Maryland Code (1987 Repl.Vol.), Article 27, §§ 286, 286A, 287 and 290, and of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Sentences were imposed totalling forty-five years' imprisonment and a $50,000 fine. Upon Birchead's appeal to the Court of Special Appeals, we granted certiorari...
