NEELY, Justice:

Elmer Stacy was convicted by a jury on 25 July 1986, of first-degree sexual abuse for sexual contact with a five-year-old girl. Defendant is a twenty-eight-year-old of limited intelligence1 who was invited to live in the home by the victim's parents. The state relied almost exclusively on the victim's testimony that defendant touched her between the legs (through clothing), touched her "titties," and tried to kiss her....
