As a result of two separate but closely related incidents that occurred on October 18 and 19, 1982, the defendant was charged with various crimes. In regard to the events that occurred on October 18, the defendant was charged with assault with intent to rape, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and indecent assault and battery on a person who had attained the age of fourteen.
