William Jeffrey Cantrell was first indicted on April 19, 1982, for first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of murder. At the conclusion of the first trial, a mistrial was declared because the jury was unable to reach a verdict. Following Cantrell's second trial in May 1983, he was found guilty of first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of murder.
