On May 25, 1983, third-party defendant Leon Fried was arrested and charged with two counts each of grand larceny in the second degree (then Penal Law § 155.35), forgery in the second degree (Penal Law § 170.10) and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree (Penal Law § 170.25). Fried was held in custody for over 36 hours before being released in his own recognizance. On October 31, 1983, after 10 court adjournments over a five-month period...
