Defendant appeals his conviction of aggravated battery, OCGA § 16-5-24, enumerating the denial of his motion for new trial on the general grounds and the court's failure to charge good character as a defense.

We note at the outset that this case, involving an incident in February 1981, has been inordinately slow in reaching this court for review. The trial, which is transcribed on 221 pages, took place in February 1982, and was followed...
