In this appeal, we are asked to vacate a three-year old private placement adoption of an infant, alleged to be an American Indian, on the grounds that the adoption proceedings failed to conform to the requirements of state law and the federal Indian Child Welfare Act, 25 U.S.C. §§ 1901-63 (1982) ("ICWA" or "Act"), which governs the adoption of Indian children.
