Shortly after the shotgun slaying of Thomas Kidder in Rensselaer County during the early morning hours of July 21, 1984, defendant was taken into custody as a suspect in that crime. While in custody later that day, defendant confessed to the 1983 murder of Joseph Zappola in Albany County. Defendant was convicted of murder in the second degree for the Zappola homicide and was sentenced to 25 years...
