On March 23, 1984, Clarissa Laverick was taken to surgery at Children's Hospital Medical Center ("Children's Hospital") for a routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. During the surgery, an overdose of Forane gas was administered, resulting in Clarissa's cardiac arrest. Although Clarissa was resuscitated, she failed to recover and died on April 5, 1984.

In March 1985, Clarissa's mother, Kathleen Laverick, the appellee, filed suit individually...
