The defendant has appealed from the judgment rendered in favor of the plaintiffs after a trial to the court. We find error in part.

The plaintiff Ardis Davis alleged that she suffered injuries on May 19, 1979, when she struck a pothole in an intersection in the borough of Naugatuck while operating a vehicle owned by her husband, the plaintiff Denman Davis, and while in the exercise of due care.
