OPINION

BILLINGS, Judge:

This is an appeal from an order which permanently terminated appellant Ray Felan's parental rights and authorized the petitioners to proceed with the adoption of his child. The trial court found that Felan, prior to the filing of petitioners' petition for adoption, had adopted his child by acknowledgment pursuant to Utah Code § 78-30-12 (1987), and that he was a fit and proper person to have custody of his child.
