On August 13, 1985, defendant was indicted by a Lafayette Parish Grand Jury for simple kidnapping in violation of La. R.S. 14:45 and attempted first degree murder in violation of La.R.S. 14:27 and 14:30. Defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges. The bill of information was amended on December 3, 1985, to charge defendant with attempted second degree murder, a violation of La.R.S. 14:27 and 14:30.1.
