Defendant, Michael D. Klause, pled guilty to the crime of altering the serial number of a firearm, a violation of LSA-R.S. 40:1788(B). In exchange for this plea, the State dismissed a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On July 16, 1987, Klause was sentenced to serve four years at hard labor and fined $500.00.
