On June 16, 1987, two Denver police officers were on duty at the Stapleton International Airport as part of the Stapleton narcotics unit. As the officers observed passengers arriving from Miami, Florida — considered to be a source city for drugs — they observed the defendant, wearing a distinctive turquoise jumpsuit, leave the plane.
