Appellant Jordan brought this action against both his employer and his union. He sued his employer, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), for wrongful discharge, alleging that he had been fired in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim, and he sued his union, Local 689 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, for an alleged breach of its duty of fair representation.
