SNELL, Justice.

On September 13, 1985, a three-member disciplinary committee found petitioner, James A. Williams, an inmate of the Iowa State Men's Reformatory in Anamosa, to have violated a prison rule. As a sanction for the violation, Williams was given five days solitary confinement, lost four days of good conduct credit, and was placed in indefinite disciplinary detention. He exhausted his administrative appeals and then initiated the present postconviction action...
