In the fall of 1981, Robin Allen was hospitalized for emotional problems at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington. Dr. L.C. Smith, a psychiatrist, undertook to treat Mrs. Allen, but before discussing her history with Dr. Smith, Mrs. Allen asked whether information revealed during her treatment would be confidential.
