Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, the defendant Kerry Smith (a/k/a Kerry Jackson) was found guilty of aggravated battery, attempted murder and armed robbery of Homer Rouse. He was subsequently sentenced to serve concurrent extended terms of 55 years for attempted murder and 55 years for armed robbery. The trial court reasoned that this sentence was imposed due...
