Defendant, a black man, is charged with the attempted murder of nine white and Hispanic police officers. During the first three rounds of jury selection, defense counsel peremptorily challenged all eight white prospective jurors who had not been excused for cause. Thus, at the end of the third round, 6 black and Hispanic jurors had been selected and sworn, and an additional 2 black jurors...
