Earlis J. Adams was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 308 in Lafourche Parish around noon on December 10, 1981. It was grinding season and Adams was taking a full load of sugarcane from a field below Lockport to a mill in Raceland. He rounded a curve and saw a Louisiana State Police vehicle, lights flashing, traveling near the center line.
