In May, 1982, the plaintiff, Evelyn R. Jones, bought an automobile liability insurance policy from the defendant, Motorists Mutual Insurance Company. Mrs. Jones had a teenage son named Dale whom she agreed to exclude from the automobile policy's coverage.
