On March 6, 1985, Betty Bryant was working as a desk clerk at the Red Roof Inn in Little Rock. She saw the appellant linger in the lobby of the Inn for about thirty minutes, and then, after all of the other people in the lobby had left, she closely observed him when he came up and asked about room rates.
