The defendant, the commissioner of transportation, condemned a portion of the plaintiffs' property and certain slope rights, located in Trumbull, and assessed damages in the amount of $1500. Claiming that the award was inadequate, the plaintiffs appealed to the Superior Court where the matter was referred to a state trial referee who fixed the damages at $2940.
